GTD for the Rest of Us

Earlier I predicted that someone will create an alternative to the Getting Things Done system for the right-brain people and the creator will become a regularly recurring guest at Oprah. It looks like at some level, this prediction has come true.

In the latest issue of Oprah’s periodical called O Magazine, there is an article that pretty much shoots down GTD and offers a simpler approach of having a three-folder system for emails: Archive, Hold, and Follow-up. Who was that someone that offered the GTD alternative? None other than Lifehacker!

I consider this proposed system to be a watered-down version of GTD… I don’t see it being a complete system as GTD, nor is Lifehacker asked to regularly appear on Oprah’s TV show (yet). I didn’t quite nail it with my predictions. However, I do see the ripple effect that GTD is having with the mainstream crowd.

Just to note that the original article in Lifehack called the Follow-up folder the Action folder. Trying to clarify any potential confusion :)
